Carabineros reported this morning the murder of two corporals and a sergeant of the institution while they were on preventive patrols.
The incident occurred following midnight regarding 30 kilometers south of Cañete, in the town of Antiquina. Firefighters went to fight the fire of a police patrol where the three deceased officers were found.
The Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, reported an “extremely serious” attack that involved the burning of the police patrol.
The general director, Ricardo Yáñez, lamented what he described as “a cruel and vile murder.” “Once once more, our anniversary is stained with blood, by those who do not hesitate to murder those who care for us. “We are deeply saddened,” he said.
The emergency meeting, held at dawn in La Moneda, was attended by the Ministers of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, of Defense, Maya Fernández, the Undersecretaries of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve and of Defense, Ricardo Montero, as well as the presidential delegate of the Biobío, Daniela Dresdner. President Boric stated that “immediate actions were coordinated to respond to this cowardly attack.”
On behalf of the Carabineros, the general director ordered the following measures: Transfer of a multidisciplinary team to support investigative proceedings to the Biobío region, suspension of official events to commemorate the anniversary of the institution and the rendering of tribute and the raising of the flag at half-mast
There will be a three-day national mourning, decreed by President Boric in a publication on his account on X.
“We hope that the corresponding investigations can find those responsible for these events,” said the Provincial Presidential Delegate of Arauco, Humberto Toro, adding that both Carabineros and Jedena teams were on the ground at dawn.
