Baptized life2vec AI Death Calculator, a new form of artificial intelligence would be able to predict events in the lives of citizens, including the date of their death. This disturbing project, to say the least, is being carried out by the Technical Universities of Denmark (DTU), Copenhagen, Copenhagen IT (ITU) and Northeastern, in the United States. The results of their research have just been published in the journal Nature Computational Science.

To achieve their objective, the researchers developed a language model dedicated to the analysis of data from the personal lives of the Danes, the only population whose data has been taken into account for the moment. To do this, they compiled millions of data relating to their health, ranging from visits to the doctor or to the emergency room, including diagnoses made and their professional background, whether it concerns their sectors of activity, their income or their social benefits. It should be noted that the majority of the information collected focused on the period 2008-2016.

What do the first diagnoses reveal?

After training their model, the scientists were able to create a tool that might predict anyone’s life expectancy, as well as the disease risks they might contract, and even the likely date of death . Obviously, this model is currently only suitable for the Danes.

Unsurprisingly, individuals in a position of leadership with higher incomes are more likely to live a long time, while people with psychiatric diagnoses are associated with a more “rapid” risk of death.

People with fragile mental health have a shorter life expectancy than others

In addition to its possible reliability, this work naturally raises important ethical questions regarding the use of sensitive medical data and their confidentiality. This type of research nevertheless opens up new, unexpected perspectives when the AI thinks it’s Madame Irma!
