12 companies from the Santiago Fire Department controlled a fire that affected a sector of the Salvador hospital in the district of Providencia. The flames did not reach the clinical area of the medical facility.
A fire affected the Salvador Hospital in the Providencia district on Monday night, specifically in the oldest sector of the enclosure and that following a few hours was controlled by Firefighters.
The fire affected an old sector of the Hospital, specifically in the northeast wing, which is currently being occupied as offices or warehouses by a company that carries out construction work in the health facility.
Police explained that the fire originated inside a container and then spread to a sector where there was light material, causing the fire and a significant amount of smoke.
Despite the large amount of smoke, Firefighters quickly controlled the emergency and prevented the fire from spreading to the area where the patients and hospital officials are. In a job that required the support of 12 companies.
Likewise, at the moment there have been no injuries due to this emergency, nor were evacuations carried out on the premises, they explained from the Fire Department.
“The fire did not affect the current hospital facilities, the fire was concentrated only in areas where construction works are being carried out (…) There were landslides because it was an old area, the fuel load was high, but fortunately these landslides did not cause injuries” , said Diego Velásquez, commander of the Santiago Fire Department.
