They chose the fire department instead of the beach – Blue news – News

Seventeen students from Siófok took a big step towards improving the standard of living of the society around them following they tested themselves at the fire department of their town. Not caring that the school year is over, the young people grabbed notebooks and pens, but not just sitting on a bench, they also immersed themselves in the firefighting and rescue tasks in practice.

The high school students decided not to start their vacation following the end of the year. Most of the 50 hours of community service required for graduation – 35 hours – were completed at the Siófok Professional Fire Department. The goal of the firefighters was to teach young people that they are responsible for themselves, each other and others.

During their time at the fire department, the children were able to feel that the sources of danger are real threats and that disaster can affect anyone. However, high school students were introduced to real-life situations in which they might learn what to do for others or themselves in the event of a problem. During the past week, the students got to know firefighting equipment; they experienced how and how quickly flames can be extinguished with a powder extinguisher; they have mastered the use of a breathing apparatus; they even performed complex assembly tasks.

And once they were at the fire station, they also tested their endurance, as they put on the full deployment outfit, which weighed regarding thirty kilograms.

If, following learning the basics of firefighting and rescue tasks, they want to use their knowledge in the future – even as a volunteer firefighter – they will have the opportunity to obtain a basic firefighter qualification following turning 18. Moreover, we welcome the most committed people in the ranks of the professionals.
