Officials from the Investigative, Scientific, Criminal and Criminalistics Corps (Cicpc) managed to arrest six subjects belonging to the criminal group “Los Piratas de Maurica”, who were taken into custody on charges of theft in various sectors of Miranda and Nueva Esparta.
The sextet operated with death threats once morest the fishermen from Mirandinos and surrounding areas, following which they seized the outboard motors and other valuables.
They also marketed what was stolen and obtained monetary benefits.
The age of the criminals is between 27 and 48, according to what was known by the authorities.
The arrest took place in the Maurica sector, Anzoátegui state, where the police forces were deployed as part of the security plans in said entity.
The director of the Cicpc, Douglas Rico, specified that said criminal activity ended up “affecting the production of the fishing sector.”
On the other hand, several outboard motors, two firearms, these of a shotgun type, a GPS and four telephones were recovered during the operation.
The case remained at the disposal of the Public Ministry of Anzoátegui state.
