In an operation carried out this Thursday, May 9, by the National Division once morest the Criminal Development of Gangs (Dipanda) of the National Civil Police (PNC) together with the Prosecutor’s Office once morest the Crime of Extortion, an alleged gang member of the organization of Barrio 18.
The Public Ministry (MP) identified the detainee as José Manuel Lemus Espinoza, 41, who goes by several aliases such as “El Burro, Gordo, Pelón and Bestia.”
The capture of Lemus Espinoza was carried out under an arrest warrant that indicates him from crime of extortion. Lemus is wanted by a Guatemalan court.

According to the PNC report, the operation was carried out in the Primero de Julio neighborhood, zone 5 of Mixco.
In addition, the authorities point out that the subject is allegedly a coordinator and member of the clique “Little Psyco Criminal” from the Barrio 18 gang.
According to the Police, this criminal structure is dedicated to extortion in different areas of Mixco.
On March 23, 2019, Lemus Espinoza was detained along with a 16-year-old teenager in Mixco and a firearm was confiscated from them when they were apparently planning an armed attack once morest a taxi driver, the PNC reported.
In 2018 he was also captured in the sector known as “La Isla” in the Primero de Julio neighborhood, in the aforementioned municipality.

The MP reported that the capture stems from complaints filed with the Mixco Anti-Extortion Prosecutor’s Office. The complaints indicate that since 2020, Lemus demanded amounts of up to Q3,500 per week from his victims. The Police stated that Lemus Espinoza is the brother of Axel Danilo Ramírez Espinoza, alias “Smiley”.

El Smiley, according to authorities, participated in the deaths of several city bus pilots. He is currently serving a prison sentence in Fraijanes 1 prison.
