They assure that all hotels in Cuba will have electric generators

Without fear of collapse, tourism authorities in Cuba assure that their hotels will have the support of electrical generators to avoid inconvenience to foreign tourists, in the midst of the current generation crisis in the country.

The Cuban Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) announced that the tourism sector and hotels in Cuba will have backup electrical generators during the 2024-2025 winter high season, which has already begun on the island.

This measure will be implemented after the energy collapse of October 18, 2024, which generated extensive international media coverage and affected the tourist image and the stability of services in the island’s hotels.

Giana Galindo Enríquez, commercial director of MINTUR, informed the Russian press that the provision would seek to “guarantee the maintenance of the viability of tourist services” in the face of deficiencies in the energy infrastructure.

The official, in statements to the Russian agency TASS, pointed out that, despite the crisis, “the impact on the tourism sector was minimal” thanks to the preventive and corrective actions adopted.

“When this situation made it difficult to serve clients, they were transferred to other hotels where they were provided with complete recreational facilities,” he added.

Electric generators for hotels in Cuba

While Cubans face lack of basic services such as electricity and drinking water, the government prioritizes the stability of the tourism sector, key to the Cuban economy.

Thus, with backup generators, they hope to offer a stable tourist season this winter, although concerns persist about the quality of services for the general population.

Despite the problems, the directive specified that “we have not had any imbalance in the transactions that exist with the Russian market and with the markets of other countries.”

According to tourism agencies, also interviewed by the Russian media in Cuba, “all necessary measures have been taken to provide everything necessary in a time of extreme uncertainty and keep the tourism sector afloat.”
