The residents of the El Trébol neighborhood complained regarding the practice of rowing dragon boats on the “Beach without wind” on Lake Moreno at kilometer 20. They recalled that That place is part of the El Trébol nature reserve.

The neighbors made the claim before the Comptroller’s Court and met with Mayor Walter Cortes who said “he might not do anything because the installation of the containers with the boats on that small beach on municipal land had been approved by ordinance.”

In one of the last sessions of the previous Municipal Council, the transfer of a municipal space to the Damas Dragón Nahuel Rosas Civil Association located in the area of the Laguna El Trébol Reserve was approved. This institution is made up of female breast cancer survivors, who use rowing for recovery.

The bailment for the use of that space is for 10 years.

“We appeal that the municipality grant the Damas Dragón Nahuel Rosas Civil Association another space that does not imply a detriment to the quality of life of the neighbors, nor does it increase the high danger implied by the high traffic in the area,” they stated.

They described that the space is limited since that coast is used by neighbors and tourists and, they recalled that, a few years ago, access to the boat launch was closed to preserve the safety of the families. In addition, the use of jet skis was prohibited in the area due to the noise they generated and the effect on the ecosystem.

«Today, a boat regarding 11 meters long is placed in a small space using a large ramp, thereby reducing the space on the beach. The installation of two containers on the way down does not correspond to a green environment that we are trying to preserve,” they added.

They highlighted that beyond the rowing activity, important alterations are generated in the environment. «It leads us to ask ourselves why this place was chosen, what were the evaluations that were made on the ground. No environmental feasibility or impact study has been carried out in an area defined by the Organic Charter as a Protected area,” they noted.

Among the arguments for which the ordinance was approved, the therapeutic importance of the activity was invoked: “This is in no way under discussion, as is the fight to access one’s own place, but no mention was ever made of the pros and cons.” of the place assigned in bailment.
