They ask Sandra Torres about a raffle with tickets with the UNE logo

This was the response of the presidential candidate of the UNE party when she was approached regarding an alleged raffle, with tickets with the party’s logo, in La Terminal, the place where her electoral campaign began today.

On Monday, January 27, the presidential candidate for the party National Unit of Hope (UNE), Sandra Julieta Torres Casanovabegan his electoral campaign inside the La Terminal market, in zone 4.

At the end of the proselytizing activity, she was asked if a raffle for various products would be held in said place to attract potential voters to which she replied:

“I don’t know. That is not our situation. We are here, invited. I do not know nothing regarding that. The UNE has not done any of that”.

He was told that the tickets that were being delivered for said raffle had the logo of his political group, to which he reiterated that he did not know anything regarding that.

Immediately followingwards, he was asked what he expected from this electoral campaign, indicating that “we are very happy to be here, ready to win the presidency, God first.”

Would they hold a raffle?

In the place where the raffle would supposedly take place, a large vinyl banner with the face of Torres Casanova was located as a background, in which the call to vote for her was also made.

Among the products that might be seen were motorcycles, green bicycles, living room furniture, wardrobes and forks, and various electrical appliances.

Is prohibited

However, carrying out this type of activity is prohibited in accordance with the Electoral and Political Parties Law (LEPP), which is established in Article 223. “Of prohibitions. During any electoral process it is strictly prohibited”, in its subsection “m”.

“m) Grant or offer perks, gifts or any other compensation that implies patronage for electoral purposes.”

Start electoral campaign

During her speech at the start of the campaign in La Termina, the candidate for the green party offered to eliminate the Value Added Tax (VAT) on basic basket products, as well as medicines.

Other promises:

  • “A cooperative for merchants and a specialty clinic to serve people with free medicine.”
  • “To the elderly, with me they will have half a minimum wage so they can survive.”
  • “I promise to create employment and generate work, decent work, with decent wages. That is why we are offering an additional salary, in addition to salary number 14 for all state and private sector workers.”
