The Metropolitan Police of Bogotá, in Colombia, reported on October 16 that they arrested five alleged members of the Tren de Aragua gang, after several raids in the town of Kennedy.
The mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, reported that among those detained is a subject known as alias Bellaco and a woman nicknamed Francesca, who according to the investigations of the Colombian Prosecutor’s Office are related to the explosion of grenades in the Colombian capital. .
“We are not going to rest until we completely dismantle the organizations that are dedicated to this crime,” the mayor said through his social networks.
According to information from the RCN channel, those detained will be prosecuted for the crimes of extortion, homicide, drug trafficking and arms trafficking.
Grenade explosion in Bogotá
The authorities confirmed that alias Francesca is the alleged leader of the gang in the town of Kennedy in Bogotá, while Bellaco is accused of being responsible for the throwing of two grenades in the area that left two dead and 10 injured on September 10.
Among the injured are two local police officers and one of the deceased was the one carrying one of the grenades that exploded before being thrown.
The mayor of Bogotá added that alias Francesca was allegedly in charge of extorting women who practice sexual activities.
During the operations, police officers seized 2,200 grams of narcotics, seven smartphones, two firearms, a motorcycle and several pamphlets with extortion messages attributed to the Aragua Train.
Galán highlighted that these arrests are in addition to the 178 they have made so far this year, mostly for the crime of extortion in Bogotá.
Previous arrests of members of the Aragua Train in Colombia
The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, confirmed on July 1 the capture of Larry Amaury Álvarez Núñezalias Larry Changa, one of the main leaders and co-founders of the criminal gang Tren de Aragua, in the Colombian department of Quindío, near Bogotá.

Information reward
The spokesperson for the United States Department of State (USA), Matthew Miller, together with the Colombian authorities announced on July 11 a reward of up to 12 million dollars for information that helps capture three leaders of the Aragua Train.
Miller explained that the criminals for whom they are offering compensation are: Héctor “Niño” Guerrero, Yohan José Romero, known as Johan Petrica and Giovanny San Vicente. The three leaders are wanted for the crimes of conspiracy to commit transnational organized crime, drug and human trafficking, as well as money laundering.
The US Embassy in Colombia and the Colombian police indicated that they are working together in the search for the leaders of the criminal gang.
“Criminals always look for a place to take refuge and the police in Latin America have international cooperation operations to capture the subjects wherever they are, but we still do not have information if these ringleaders are in Colombia,” explained William Salamanca, director of the Colombian Police. .
