An individual suspected of helping to prepare an alleged plan by Russian services to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was arrested in Poland, Polish and Ukrainian prosecutors announced this Thursday.
The detainee was identified as Pawel K., of Polish nationality, who allegedly had been working alongside Russia to carry out this plan.
According to the authorities, Pawel K had the mission of “collecting and delivering information to the military intelligence services of the Russian Federation” to “plan a possible assassination attempt” on Zelensky.
Pawel K. had “established contacts with citizens of the Russian Federation directly involved in the war in Ukraine,” Polish authorities added.
Polish authorities were informed of the suspect’s activities by the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office, which transmitted “essential elements of evidence,” the document states.
According to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Pawel K. was supposed to collect information “regarding the security of the Rzeszów-Jasionka airport” in southeastern Poland.
This territory is usually used by Zelensky when he travels outside Ukraine, as well as by foreign leaders who go to Ukraine or to send aid to this country, which has been at war with Russia since February 2022.
