They announce that they will verify the situation of international transporters

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Inter-Institutional Commission on Transport, led by the Vice Ministry of Labor, decided to verify the legal and labor conditions under which international transport companies operate, especially those that provide services to Uruguayan ports.

He also discussed the possibility of discussing with the trade union and business sectors the project to reform the public passenger transport system in the metropolitan area and continuing with inspections on the road to verify compliance with labour rights.

These decisions were adopted at a meeting at the Ministry of Labor, attended by the Deputy Minister of Labor, César Segovia, the Deputy Minister of Transportation, Emiliano Fernández, the Director of the National Transportation Directorate (Dinatran), Luis Fernando González, the Director General of Inspection of the Ministry of Labor, Anahí Carballo, and representatives of the Directorate of Employer-Employee Contributions of the Social Security Institute (IPS).

On this occasion, the members of the commission received members of the National Workers’ Central (CNT), from the transport area, who expressed their concerns regarding the apparent non-compliance by some transporters and companies that send products to Uruguay.

The union members pointed out that many workers are not registered with the IPS, nor are they receiving the corresponding salary, while others face situations of uncertainty and precarious economic conditions in the ports.

To address these concerns, the commission decided to conduct a thorough analysis of the complaints. The IPS will submit a list of the workers registered in these companies, Dinatran will verify the authorization of the transport companies to operate and the Ministry of Labor will review their registration in the Employer-Worker Registry.

With this information, relevant decisions will be made at the next meeting, which might include the installation of a tripartite dialogue table or the supervision of the transport companies involved, said Vice Minister Segovia.

The organization also received representatives of the Central Unitary Workers’ Union (CUT), who expressed their interest in participating in the bill that seeks to modify the interurban public transportation system.

In this regard, the authorities responded that once a proposal has been consolidated by the Executive, it will be socialized with the actors involved, for subsequent submission to the National Congress.

In addition, the need to continue with inspections on the roads was addressed. In the coming weeks, operations will be carried out in various areas of the metropolitan area and eventually outside the Central Department to verify compliance with labor rights.

The commission also agreed to establish a database to assess compliance with labour regulations, especially in companies that receive state subsidies, the Ministry of Labour said.
