Meteorologist Miriam Teresita Llanes reported last night on Cuban television about the current weather conditions and forecasts for the weekend in the country.
According to Llanes, Cuba is under the influence of high migratory pressures of continental origin, which generate a flow of northeasterly winds that transports clouds to the areas of the northern coast in much of the archipelago.
This high pressure system combines with a frontal trough and a tropical wave that are present over Cuban territory, accurate.
The frontal trough, which extends to the path of the winds, mainly affects the eastern region, creating unstable conditions that can cause rains and showers in that area.
Llanes explained that, although this Saturday the rainfall gradually decreased, for this Sunday the trough is expected to remain almost stationary, which will once again increase the probability of rain in the eastern end of the island, a supersaturated area.
Tropical wave moves westward in the Caribbean
In addition to the trough, an active tropical wave is moving westward in the Caribbean, and its effects will also influence this Sunday’s forecast, with mostly cloudy skies across Cuba. The specialist pointed out that the northeast winds will maintain a predominance of partially cloudy skies throughout the country, although occasional cloudy weather could occur in areas of the northern coast, where isolated showers are possible, especially in the east.
As for temperatures, the minimum temperatures will range between 20 and 23 degrees Celsius, with higher values in coastal areas. During the afternoon, highs of between 29 and 33 degrees Celsius are expected, with the highest values in the province of Granma. The winds will continue to blow from the northeast at speeds of between 10 and 25 km/h, and higher gusts are expected in areas of the north coast, reaching up to 30 km/h.
For the next few days, the forecast anticipates that the conditions of rain and showers, accompanied by thunderstorms, will continue in the east of Cuba, while the rest of the territory will experience precipitation mainly in coastal areas due to the influence of northeasterly winds. .
