The chief constable who allegedly secured sick leave with false certificates was brought to the Autonomous Single-Member Misdemeanor Court. The court sentenced him to 18 months imprisonment convertible to 10 euros/day without recognizing any mitigating circumstances.
The 31-year-old was arrested two days ago, by police officers of the internal affairs of the security forces of Northern Greece, after a report that he tried to get sick leave with false medical certificates, while he had done the same in the past.
What the internal affairs police officer testified to the court is typical. “We saw him walking normally, but when he arrived at the police station to attend the health committee, while he had the crutches under his arms, he then started using them pretending to have a problem.” This was also emphasized by the public prosecutor in her plea for his guilty plea.
The court convicted him of moral turpitude in the issuance of a false medical certificate, attempted embezzlement of a false certificate, and perjury, all consecutively. He has already been suspended by the police.
