These are the record splits at Ironman Hawaii

from the middle Cameron Wurf holds the current record on the bike course at Ironman Hawaii.

Swimming, cycling, running – whoever completes the three disciplines plus the two changes in Hawaii the fastest overall is crowned Ironman World Champion. Apart from that, there are certainly athletes who do not necessarily fight for the title to the end, but who can put their stamp on the race through their strength in one of the three sub-disciplines. This becomes clear from the three currently valid records in the splits in swimming, cycling and running.

Nobody swam faster than Lucy Charles-Barclay and Jan Sibbersen

At the To swim For a long time it seemed as if two records from the 90s would stand for eternity for both men and women: Jodi Jackson (USA) got out of the water in 1999 following 48:43 minutes. Nobody had covered the 3.86 kilometers faster before her – and following her it took almost endless 19 years before the ex-swimmer Lucy Charles-Barclay set a new record in 2018. With 48:13 minutes – i.e. 30 seconds faster – the Brit holds the current split record of the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii for women. For the men, Lars Jorgensen’s time lasted even longer before it might be broken. The American only needed 46:44 minutes for the first discipline in 1995. For 23 years, athletes bit their teeth on this brand, then came the German Jan Sibbersen and increased in 2018 46:29 minutes first from the Pacific.

Daniela Ryf and Cameron Wurf hold the best bike split

At the To go biking delivered the Ironman World Championship 2018 top times in Hawaii. Nine of the ten fastest bike splits ever set by women result from this year. Among other things, the current record, set by Daniel Ryf. The Swiss burned in 4:26:07 hours for the 180 kilometers a time in the asphalt, which was almost 20 minutes faster than the previous record of compatriot Karin Thuerig from 2011 (4:44:19 hours). For the men, 2018 also delivered a number of fast bike splits. Hardly surprising: No one has ever been faster than Cameron litter this year when the Australian following 4:09:06 hours arrived at T2 on the bike. He improved his old record from the previous year (4:12:54 hours) by almost six minutes. A total of six of the ten fastest bike times for men were from 2018.

Mirinda Carfrea and Patrick Lange are the fastest runners

At the To run hat Amazing Carfrae immortalized itself several times in the list of the best in Hawaii. The Australians ran the marathon in 2014 2:50:26 hours and thus faster than any woman before. Incidentally, she was her predecessor herself when she set best times in the third discipline in 2011 (2:52:09 hours) and 2013 (2:50:38 hours). Overall, Mirinda Carfrae appears in the top 10 running splits five times. Holds with the men Patrick Lange the marathon record: The German ran in 2016 2:39:45 hours third place overall at the World Championships. With 2:39:59 hours from 2017 and 2:41:31 hours from 2018, the two-time Ironman World Champion is also in second and sixth place in the top 10 best times in Hawaii. Until Lange set a new record, Mark Allen’s time from the 1989 Iron War over the 42.195 kilometers (2:40:04 hours) remained untouchable.
