The Paris Olympics have entered its seventh day. A number of world and Olympic records have been broken by athletes in various sports.
In addition to several athletes setting new records, several rising stars managed to improve their own records from previous Olympic performances.
In the Archery branch, for example, South Korean archer Lim Si-hyeon set a World Record score by achieving 694 points on the first day of the multi-event sports event.
Appearing in her first Olympics, the 21-year-old Si-hyeon broke the previous World and Olympic records set by compatriots Kang Chae-young and An San. Chae-young holds the world record of 692 set in 2019, while An San holds the Olympic record of 680 set at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
In addition to the individual events, South Korean women archers Jeon Hun-young, Lim Si-hyeon, and Nam Su-hyeon also broke previous Olympic records in the team event set by their compatriots. Remarkably, Lim Si-hyeon also broke the mixed team record with her partner Kim Woo-jin.
In the shooting event, five Olympic records were also improved. South Korea led by setting a new record in the women’s 10m air pistol event with Oh Ye-jin scoring 243.2 points, and in the women’s 10m air rifle event with Ban Hyo-jin scoring 634.5 points. Meanwhile, in the men’s 10m air rifle event, Chinese shooters set a new record of 252.2 points. Meanwhile, in the men’s and women’s Trap events, new records were set by British athlete Nathan Hales with 48 points, and Olivia Adriana Ruano from Guatemala who scored 45 points.

In swimming, China’s Pan Zhanle broke the men’s 100m freestyle record on July 31 with a time of 46.4 seconds to claim the gold medal. Making his Olympic debut, the 19-year-old bettered US swimmer Caeleb Dressel’s 100m freestyle Olympic record of 46.92 seconds, set in the first leg of the 4×100m freestyle relay.
France’s Leon Marchand also made headlines on the day when he broke two Olympic records in the space of a few hours to propel the home team into the top two in the medal standings, setting the records in the 200m breaststroke in two minutes, 05.85 seconds and the 200m butterfly in 1:51.21 seconds.
On Thursday (August 1) night, Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh also broke the Olympic record in the women’s 200m butterfly with a time of two minutes, 3.03 seconds, surpassing the previous record of 2:03.86 seconds set by China’s Zhang Yufei at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago.
