The times when Chinese cars were smiled at are over. The new models from the Far East are impressive and ready to conquer Europe. These are the most promising candidates.

The Chinese car brand BYD (Build Your Dreams) also wants to conquer the Swiss market with the Han premium sedan.

Aiways

The Chinese manufacturer Aiways was one of the first to look for new customers in this country. The first model from the Chinese has been available from us since last year, the Aiways U5. The all-electric SUV celebrated its premiere at the Geneva Motor Show back in 2019 and was impressive both visually and technically.

The Aiways U5 has been available for purchase in Switzerland since last year.

The car, which costs around 40,000 francs, has an output of 150 kW and a range of over 400 km. 51 Aiways U5 were registered in Switzerland last year. Before the end of this year, Aiways wants to launch another SUV model, the U6, which is also purely electric.

Nio

Last fall, Nio celebrated its entry into the European market in Berlin. The models of the purely electric premium brand from Shanghai will soon also be available in Switzerland, and a suitable company called Nio Switzerland GmbH has already been founded.

Should also be available in Switzerland soon: the models from the Nio brand.

Nio

Compared to other electric car manufacturers, Nio relies on changing batteries, its own charging stations and its own charging network. You can already order three models from our German neighbors, the sedans ET7 and ET5 and the SUV model EL7. Deliveries will begin in the fall.

BYD

The car brand BYD is still young, but behind it is one of the largest battery groups in China. The company decided to enter the automotive industry as early as 2003, and seven years later BYD had already produced half a million cars. Today, the group is one of the largest automobile manufacturers in China and is causing headaches for western competitors.

Not only Tesla is competing: The Chinese car brand BYD (Build Your Dreams) with the premium sedan Han.

BYD

With the SUV Tang and the premium sedan Han, BYD can easily compete with Tesla and Co. And probably at very competitive prices too. The Tang is already on the market in Norway, with the rest of Europe set to follow later this year. By the way, BYD stands for «Build Your Dreams».

In addition to the Tang and the Han, a compact SUV called the Atto 3 is also set to come onto the market. It is still unclear when BYD will also be available in Switzerland.

Not

The electric car brand Ora belongs to the Chinese manufacturer Great Wall Motors, a company that is not only China’s first car manufacturer, but is also seen as a beacon of hope. Great Wall Motors is coming to Europe with Ora thanks to the Emil Frey Group, which will be responsible for the import, sales, logistics and after-sales business of the Stromer.

The first Ora model is the Funky Cat. The VW Beetle reminiscence will be available with two different sized batteries with a range of up to 420 kilometers. Ora promises a digital operating environment from Face ID to extensive voice control. In Germany, the first Funky Cats are to be delivered this year, for Switzerland there is no information yet.

Wey

The Wey car brand also comes from the Great Wall Motors forge. While Ora wants to conquer the European market as a young, hip electronic brand, Wey focuses on luxury and high-end technologies. Wey is named after Jack Wey, the founder and president of Great Wall Motors.

GWM

The first model is the Wey Coffee 01 – a plug-in hybrid SUV with a range of 150 km. In Germany, the part-time Stromer is already being delivered from 55,900 euros. The four-wheeled, caffeinated hot drink is also set to roll out to Switzerland later this year – also with the Emil Frey Group.

MG

Older generations may still associate the name MG with fun roadsters and chic limousines, but those days are over. MG Motors has been part of the Chinese SAIC Group for years and is also launching its e-models in Europe – almost unnoticed so far.

But for some time now, the electric cars from the Far East have been attracting attention – first with the crossover Marvel R, then with the MG5 electric combi and now with the MG4 Electric with a range of up to 450 km. The compact Stromer is already available in Germany and the MG4 Electric should also be available here soon.
