For most people, safety is paramount when choosing their travel destination. The Global Peace Index (GPI) can provide information regarding how things are in the targeted travel destination. It is published annually by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) and is considered the global measure of world peace. 163 countries can be found in the ranking. Factors such as political stability, relations with neighboring countries, number of refugees, nuclear weapons, internal and external conflicts, military spending and incarceration rates are analyzed. Of course, this is regarding much more than the personal safety of travelers, but it’s still a pretty good guide to planning a trip.
