ACTRESS and gymnastics instructor Minati Atmanagara provides several light movements that can be done by men and women who have entered their 60s to maintain healthy knee joints and bones so they don’t stiffen.

Minati suggests that when you wake up, don’t immediately get out of bed and walk, but try to get rid of the stiffness.
especially the knees.

This movement can be done on the edge of the bed or chair in a sitting position and start moving both legs as if walking on air.

Then you can lift both legs as far as you can up and down.

The next movement is to lift your legs until they are parallel to your stomach and straighten them forward slowly and as far as you can.

Minati then continues the movement of bending one knee up and making sure it sticks to the chest and stomach. Do it alternately on the other leg with the same movement until the count of ten for 10 times.

The last movement uses a small towel or scarf to hold the leg straight, do it alternately with the other leg. This stretching will be felt until the groin and pelvis, calves and hamstrings are all pulled.

“It is hoped that with these movements we are ready to step and be active throughout the day,” said Minati.

This gymnastics activist said that doing movements that affect the joints can prevent knee problems in the future.

He also suggested that those aged 50 and 60 years and above can do swimming or jogging or fast walking, but it is not recommended to do jumping or running movements.

She also supports women from young to old to stay active by establishing a gymnastics studio that accepts women of all ages since 1990 with a gymnastics method that avoids high jumps or jerks.

“It just so happens that since I was a teenager, I have been very fond of sports, especially gymnastics. In 1990, at the age of 30, I tried to open a studio with my own gymnastics method because I wanted to handle women of all ages. I avoided high jumps or jerks so I focused more on stretching,” he said.

She hopes to encourage women to maintain healthy joints because she believes prevention is better than cure. (Ant/Z-1)
