TousAntiCovid is the most downloaded app in 2021 in France. Originally, it was called StopCovid and allowed, at the end of the first wave of the Covid epidemic, to carry out “contact tracing” as we say in epidemiology, that is to say to warn you if you have been in contact with an infected person. In 15 days, it recorded some 2.5 million downloads.
During the second confinement, the application makes it possible to store travel certificates. Result: 17 million downloads. But the number of TousAntiCovid downloads exploded with the introduction of the health pass in the summer of 2021. The app allows you to store certificates displaying your status (vaccinated, cured or negative test). The app had to be usable by everyone and all ages, recalls Achille Lerpinière, in charge of TousAntiCovid at the Ministry of Health during the Covid crisis: “When people don’t understand, it means a flood of phone support calls, so we mightn’t afford to have something too technical or too complex to use.”
“It’s a lot of development, thousands of hours and hundreds of thousands of lines of code. We gave ourselves the means to do something complicated, but very simple to use.”

Result: a digital success with 62 million downloads in all. Since June 30, 2023, TousAntiCovid has been on hiatus: “End of a chapter” says the app, which no longer updates epidemic data. Anyone who still has it on their phone can delete it, it will a priori no longer be useful… hoping that there won’t be a new epidemic one day.
