$5 Bills That Could Be Worth A Lot:
- $5 dollar bill from 1861 with the legend “for the”:This bill, due to a printing error in the legend “by the”, reached a price of $138,000 dollars at an auction in 2007.
- 1861 St. Louis $5 note: Considered to be the first banknotes printed in the United States, a copy of this type sold for $81,000 in 2018.
- 1914 Blue Seal Federal Reserve $5 Note: Its main feature is a blue seal on the right side. At a 2006 auction, one of these notes fetched $115,000.
- 1914 Federal Reserve $5 note with red seal:The counterpart to the blue seal, this red seal note sold for $109,000 at a 2011 auction. There are estimated to be only 13 examples in circulation.
- 1890 $5 Treasury note: Considered one of the largest early U.S. bills, there are only an estimated 14 examples in existence. At a 2013 auction, this bill fetched the highest price listed: $282,000.
