There’s a big stir because of the search for a 20-year-old in Vienna

The police arrived at several public places with a larger contingent including a helicopter and the special WEGA unit.

The 20-year-old – he was caught late in the morning – is said to have made a dangerous threat over the phone that night. This was reported to the Vienna state control center, and the man was then searched for using cell phone tracking, among other things.

Police officers were looking for the 20-year-old at the train stations in Vienna-Mitte and Floridsdorf, among other places, police spokeswoman Julia Schick told the APA. Trains were also checked. The arrest was finally made by WEGA officers in the Alsergrund district near the AKH. The man’s questioning was still pending at midday.

So far it is clear that the 20-year-old, who lives in Vienna, called someone in Graz around 3 a.m. and made threats. Specifically, he contacted a doctor at the LKH Graz.

The man told the doctor that he wanted to attack police officers, according to the spokeswoman. The person called raised the alarm in Vienna, whereupon the search with cell phone tracking etc. began. According to current knowledge, there was no danger to the public, the police said.

When he was arrested at around 10:30 a.m., the 20-year-old did not have a weapon with him. At the moment, there is no evidence that he had weapons, said Schick in response to an APA request.
