MOSCOW (EFE).— The Duma or chamber of deputies of Russia approved in first reading a bill that would allow the Russian state agency Roscomos to place advertising in space due to the growing demand for these services.

The modified rule will allow the Russian space agency to generate and carry out advertising campaigns and place advertisements on ships, stations and space infrastructure.

The bill considers the direct signing of these advertising agreements without the need for tenders and establishes that the profits collected in this way will be divided equally between the federal budget and the special reserve funds of Roscosmos.

The document cites an investigation of potential demand carried out by the Russian space agency, which confirmed the interest of important Russian banks and insurers in contracting this type of advertising.

Roscosmos estimated that the revenue that would be reported from the sale of advertising might amount to 200 million rubles ($2.16 million) annually for advertisements on ships and space stations, and up to 5 million rubles ($54,000) per year. advertising in space infrastructure such as cosmodromes, cosmonaut training centers and other terrestrial facilities.
