In order to ensure the safe traffic of passenger and freight trains across the bridge located on the most intensively used section of the Vilnius-Klaipėda railway line between Paventi and Raudėnai, “LTG Infra” will repair the Taučiai railway bridge, built in 1925 and included in the cultural heritage register. As part of the planned repairs, the bridge will have to be lifted to replace the support bearings and concrete new support points for the bearings, which will result in the suspension of train traffic on this section.
During the repair works, sleepers will also be changed, reinforced concrete panels will be installed, the facade of the embankment supports will be renewed, the embankment slopes will be repaired, the riverbed near the bridge will be cleaned and strengthened, and other works will be carried out, which will allow the service life of the bridge to be extended to another 50 years.
When managing the railway infrastructure, we always try to do the work as quickly as possible and make the most of all the possibilities, so that the train traffic is interrupted only as much as it is necessary to carry out the work.
With the company performing the repair work, the management of the Taučiai railway bridge is planned in such a way that the work is completed in the shortest possible time and to ensure that as many resources as are needed for the efficient organization and execution of the work are allocated.
“We will make every effort to complete the repair works as quickly as possible and to resume train traffic as soon as possible. To ensure this, a sufficient amount of equipment and human resources will be allocated during the works at the construction site for the proper and high-quality performance of the works,” said Michail Lipkin, representative of the contractor “Leonhard Weiss Lietuva”.
After the suspension of passenger train traffic on the route Vilnius-Klaipėda on October 14-20, the sale of tickets will also be suspended. Traffic will be intensified on the shortened Vilnius-Šiauliai route throughout the week: trains will run from 6 to 12 times a day, depending on the day of the week, more trips are planned for weekends. This autumn, not only due to repairs, but also due to electrification works, changes are planned in the traffic of passenger trains on the Vilnius–Klaipėda–Vilnius and Radviliškis–Klaipėda–Radviliškis routes. Trains transporting goods to Klaipėda will be diverted through Pagėgii due to the repair of the Taučiai bridge. Therefore, on October 14-20, the cargo transported by railway will reach the port city, but due to the lower capacity of this branch, it may take up to 24 hours. longer than usual.
