Philips’ first QD-Oled television will not be released in 2023. The Dutch manufacturer has indeed preferred LG Display’s Oled Meta technology. This OLED panel equipped with microlenses achieves a peak brightness of approximately 1500 cd/m² with a calibrated image mode (Filmmaker), and more than 2000 cd/m² in dynamic mode. It will be hosted by the Philips OLED908+ TV, which is expected to be available in Q3 2023.
However, Philips has not completely abandoned QD-Oled since this technology developed by Samsung Display continues to be evaluated by in-house engineers. It might lead to the release of a Philips Ambilight QD-Oled TV sometime next year.
According to our information, only Samsung and Sony should offer QD-Oled televisions in 2023. The South Korean has already presented its range at CES 2023 via the Samsung S95C, a high-end and ultrathin QD-Oled model, whose connectivity is remote in a Slim One Connect box. A mid-range model, the Samsung S90C, will take over the design of the current Samsung S95B. Sony should also unveil a QD-Oled model in March, which should complement the A95K.
To put it simply, we should find on the high-end television market three manufacturers using the new Oled Meta panel: LG Electronics and its LG G3, Panasonic and the MZ1500/MZ2000; finally Philips with the OLED908. Two other manufacturers will use the new QD-Oled panels: Samsung and Sony.
