President-elect Prabowo Subianto is said to be making the principle of competence the main consideration in selecting ministers in the next cabinet. Even though there is a distribution of quotas between supporting and supporting political parties, the selection process will be carried out to see the capacity of prospective cabinet members to ensure that campaign promises will be fulfilled.
Prabowo Subianto’s spokesperson, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, said Prabowo would focus on the competency aspect in choosing people who would work with him. Party delegates will later be adjusted to Prabowo’s competencies and needs in carrying out campaign programs and promises.
“Party delegates will definitely be tailored to the President’s competence and needs in accelerating Pak Prabowo’s political programs and promises. So of course they will be selected directly by Pak Prabowo,” said Dahnil when contacted by Media Indonesia, Sunday (21/4).
The same thing was previously expressed by the Secretary General of the Gerindra Party, Ahmad Muzani, who said that party delegates did not mean they did not have professional skills. That way, he said, there would be no barriers between professional circles and parties in determining cabinet ministers.
Democratic Party Spokesperson Herzaky Mahendra Putra admitted that Prabowo had communicated with Democratic Party Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) regarding the formation of the next cabinet.
He revealed that Prabowo had asked AHY to send ministerial candidates from Democratic cadres to fill his cabinet later. One of the priorities being promoted is AHY.
However, the number of ministers who will become ministers is Prabowo’s prerogative. “It all depends on Pak Prabowo. That is the prerogative of the elected president,” he said. (Z-11)
