Hesitation and mistakes nearly ruined his career.
In Soviet cinema, acting education was highly valued, and most often the roles were given only to those who graduated from a theater university. But not all the artists who shone on the screens at that time might boast of high grades and diligent studies.
For example, Leonid Kuravlev was the weakest student at VGIK. He was shy, he was squeezed all the time and, moreover, spoke poorly. There were constant errors and hesitations in his speech. In addition, the future star of Soviet comedies experienced obvious problems with memorizing the text. The handsome man stammered and stopped, which was unacceptable for a man of his profession.
Then one of the teachers raised the issue of expelling a negligent student. Kuravlev pulled himself together and began to work much harder. Soon he appeared in the thesis works of Vasily Shukshin and Andrei Tarkovsky, following which his brilliant film career began.
