Karim Benzema has had a rather eventful Saudi adventure since his arrival at the Al-Ittihad club in the summer of 2023.
The French striker did not perform well last season and had some conflicts with his coach at the time, namely the Argentinian Marcelo Gallardo. Now, it is a coach he knows very well who is at the head of the Saudi club: Laurent Blanc.
The two men played together from 2010 to 201st in the French team. There is no doubt that the former Paris Saint-Germain manager will be able to restore his player’s confidence this season. An important exercise for the Al-Ittihad club, which aims to play a leading role and win titles.
In an interview with the Saudi Pro Leaguethe 2022 Ballon d’Or winner has broken his silence and spoken about the last season. The former Real Madrid captain acknowledges that there were many problems within the club.
« I don’t like to talk about last year and what happened. There were a lot of problems! A lot. I think we weren’t just focused on football. But we have to use that, those failures, to bounce back. That’s what we did in pre-season with several changes. Don’t forget what happened last year, but now we have to learn from our mistakes and use that experience for this season,” he said.
Now, the Frenchman is looking ahead to the 2024-2025 season with the aim of making history.
