One of the great numbers of the spring concert “On the way to the dance party” in the Kuusalu Sports Center on Thursday evening was when half a hundred kindergarten children, the youngest of whom were four years old, came to the dance floor. The girls of the toddler group wore linen dresses, the girls of the two older groups and all the teachers and assistants who danced with the children wore Kuusalu green folk costume striped skirts and the boys vests.

The folk dance groups of Kiiu Kiigepönni Kindergarten took part in the joint concert for the second year – four-year-old dancers from the Kuukiiret group, five-six-year-old dancers from the Vihmatäpsut group, and six-seven-year-old dancers from the Vikerkaared group. The children are taught folk dances by Silva Sisa, the financial manager of the kindergarten, who has been dancing folk dances for many years and completed instructor courses.

Three kindergarten groups performed a joint dance and each group performed another dance independently. Teachers Astrit Vaimla, Ly Tamberg, Agnit Lees and assistants Geitlin Soosaar, Sigrid Sunter, Maarja Domnin, Kadi Hirvo, Kätlin Sepp, Haldi-Viloone Allik danced with the children.

Andrus Virak from the mixed ethnic dance group Kabujalake, who introduced the performers and dances with interludes, read before the performance of the little ones: “It’s not at all easy to get to a dance party. Therefore, folk dancing should be started as early as possible. The little sisters and brothers of our school’s dancers have also been moving their tiny feet to the rhythm of the dance all year.”

“I make folk dances set for children easier, more suitable for very young children. I hope the authors don’t mind. It’s great that since last year, our dance groups have also been invited to perform at the spring concert. Thanks and strength to the organizers. Kindergarten children see that brothers-sisters, mothers-fathers, grandmothers-grandfathers dance folk dance,” said Silva Sisa.

He added that group teachers, assistants and parents play a very important role in teaching children folk dances and preserving traditions: “Cooperation ensures a good result and confirms the motto of our kindergarten: ‘Together we can do a lot.'”

In a month, on May 24, the folk dancers of Kiigepönni kindergarten will travel to Laulasmaa kindergarten, where there will be a traditional folk dance day for kindergartens. According to Silva Sisa, the participants are from regarding a dozen kindergartens.
