Misleading information regarding the activities of the museum was recently published by a Facebook user.

“The National Museum of Lithuania on Arsenalo Street is being destroyed secretly. 1, the exhibits have already been taken away!” – reported ji.

Commentators began to take offense at this, explaining that some kind of plan was being implemented: „Everything is on point, according to plan.”

“Everything is so clear. What was demolished, already destroyed, what was bought, already sold, what was valuable, already taken away. In the words of an old man, it ends everything parcel out.

And it will happen that there is only one crooked bush (non-standard) left on the mountain,” another internet user used a quote from Antanas Baranauskas’ poem “Anykščiai šilelis” to express her anger.

Only one commenter mentioned that the museum is in need of reconstruction.

The exhibits were moved to storage

The museum had also informed regarding this press release. At the end of June, it was announced that it will close on July 3 for reconstruction.

According to the interlocutor, following closing the permanent exhibition, all the exhibits were taken to storage, this is related to the future capital repair works.

Ž. Stadalytė reminded that the building of the New Arsenal had not been repaired since its opening in 1968, so it no longer met the requirements for protecting heritage values.

“Future reconstruction, starting in 2024. March, is capital, so it is impossible to leave exhibits in the same building.

The exhibits have been returned to storage facilities where the necessary conditions are maintained and will complement future museum exhibitions as needed or be displayed in the new display at the New Arsenal when it reopens,” she noted.
