MEXICO CITY.- The arrest of Joaquin Guzman Lopezson of the drug trafficker Joaquin ‘Chapo’ Guzmanwould have been agreed between “The Chapitos” and the government of USA to benefit his brother, Ovid Guzmanarrested in 2023.
This was confirmed by the head of theto the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSC), Rose Icela Rodriguezduring the president’s morning conference Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
However, the circumstances that led to this are still unknown. Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada was arrested along with Guzmán López on July 25 in a Airport in Texas, United States.
There was an agreement between ‘Los Chapitos’ and the USA.
In the ‘morning’, Secretary Rosa Icela Rodríguez assured that the arrest of Guzmán López was agreed upon with authorities of EU., without intervention from the Mexican government.
“There was an agreement between the people who are in prison (Ovidio Guzmán) with the people who are free (Joaquín Guzmán) […] for the respective delivery, so that they could be delivered to the United States,” he said.
According to the Mexican official, this is the information that has been shared by the U.S. government so far.
Secretary Rosa Icela Rodríguez reiterated that the capture took place on U.S. territory and there was no intervention by Mexico: “We really want to emphasize that part.”
In this regard, he said he was confident that the US would send them a complete report by the end of this week, since there has been good cooperation between the two countries.
“We want to know everything regarding the arrival of the flight, the arrival of this delivery or capture, but in an official manner,” he said.
From National Palacenoted that the US has provided them with reports on the case, “but we believe that it is not the total amount of information that we would like.”

For his part, AMLO said that it is a “delicate issue” because the Sinaloa Cartel It is one of the most famous and active illegal groups.
“We do not want a decision that was made in this regard, this agreement or no agreement, to generate a greater internal conflict, because we have to protect the lives of all Mexicans,” he said.
“So we don’t want to speculate, but rather act based on the information,” he concluded.
Like the head of the SSC, AMLO said that the US has already acknowledged that it negotiated with Guzmán López, but has not provided any further information.
He also stressed that Mexican authorities did not participate in the operation to arrest “El Mayo” Zambada.
“We will soon know where the flight that took Zambada came from […] We must not get ahead of ourselves […] “Before the trial begins, we could have information,” the president said.
He added that it would be “a great help” if “El Chapo’s” sons, who are detained in the United States, revealed their ties to Mexican authorities and those who protected them.

In this regard, he reiterated that it was more important to “address the causes” of drug use and criticized the “conservatives” and U.S. authorities for “betting” on arresting drug lords.
“Mr. Zambada can be arrested, but if young people have no options, the problem cannot be solved,” he said.
“The conservatives want to resolve everything by getting rid of and arresting drug lords. We have to see why young people choose drugs,” he added.
