There was a fire in the area of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant

A fire broke out in the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant on August 11. The flames started in one of the cooling towers of the power plant.

Yevhen Yevtusenko, head of the Nikopol District Military Administration, said that according to unofficial information, the Russians set fire to a large amount of car tires in the cooling tower.

President Volodymyr Zelensky also reacted to the incident. He stated that “the Russian invaders started a fire in the area of the nuclear power plant”. According to the head of state, the radiation indicators are normal, but the situation cannot be normal as long as the Russian terrorists are illegally there, blackmailing Ukraine, all of Europe and the world. “We await the reaction of the world and the IAEA,” he wrote.

Enerhoatom believes the fire was caused by carelessness on the part of the residents or by deliberate arson.

On Monday morning, Szerhij Liszak, head of the Dnipropetrovsk OVA, announced that the fire in the area of the power plant had stopped. The radiation level in the Nikopol area is normal.
