“There should be no ambiguity with borders” – La Discusión 2024-07-15 04:05:38

President Gabriel Boric revived the controversy generated with Argentina last week over the installation of solar panels on a border base across the Andes, which penetrated three meters into Chilean territory, stating that “there should be no ambiguity with regard to borders.”

“The issue of sovereignty is extremely important, and I believe that Chile maintained a firm position, a clear position, and it was resolved as it should be resolved,” the President stressed, given that Argentine officials have already removed the structures from the province of Tierra del Fuego.

The head of state was asked regarding this issue at the start of his tour of the Magallanes and Antarctica region in the far south, although the government ruled out that the trip was related to this controversy.

“It has absolutely nothing to do with the problem we had with the solar panels that had to be removed. This is part of an agenda that goes beyond that fact and is deeper in the region,” said the minister spokesperson, Camila Vallejo.

On another topic, President Gabriel Boric “strongly” condemned the “forceful action” of a faction of Bolivian Army soldiers who this followingnoon attempted to take over the Government headquarters in La Paz.

“From Chile, I express my concern regarding the situation in Bolivia. We express our support for democracy in the sister country and for the legitimate government of Luis Arce,” the President said on his Twitter account.

“We strongly condemn the unacceptable forceful action by a sector of the army in that country. We cannot tolerate any breach of the legitimate constitutional order in Bolivia or anywhere else,” the President added.
