There is no ultimatum from us. There is an answer to an ultimatum, an attempt for more normality, logic and reason,” GERB deputy chairman Tomislav Donchev told BBC today. He also explained how the dispute between the two coalitions that support the government came to be over the position of foreign minister Minister.
“Yesterday at the Executive Committee, Mr. Borisov informed us regarding the progress of the negotiations and quoted Mr. Petkov, who said more than once: “If Denkov is not foreign minister, we will go to elections”.
For several days, the leader of GERB Boyko Borisov and the co-chairman of “We continue the change” Kiril Petkov have been setting conditions for a rotation in March through the media. Borisov first announced that the condition is that Maria Gabriel is prime minister and foreign minister. Then he accepted the option of Gabriel being prime minister, and the foreign minister being someone else, but once more from the ranks of GERB. Today Borisov announced that if this is not fulfilled there will be early elections.
“We are continuing the change” and they want the current Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov to be Foreign Minister following the rotation. Today, Kiril Petkov showed no willingness to make concessions. “We are not afraid of early elections. Why should we talk regarding red lines when there is a working team. The normal dialogue, not through the media, must continue,” he said.
“We made a huge compromise, we have a signed agreement. Now we have a new proposal, which I would call impudent,” Donchev also said.
