The Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, spoke about immigration and Germany’s attitude to the closing of its borders, stressing that there is a strong fear of the risk of migrants being trapped in the receiving countries and underlining the need for strict guarding of European borders.
“We must ensure the guarding of the European borders”, he said characteristically, emphasizing the priority of security at the external borders of the European Union.
Furthermore, speaking to ERT, he said that there is no question of mass returns of illegal immigrants from Germany to Greece.

The German authorities have admitted that they face technical and legal problems with the management of refugees and migrants in their country.
Regarding the construction of the Evros fence, Mr. Panagiotopoulos confirmed that the project will continue regardless of funding. “Whether with European or national money, the fence will continue to be built”he underlined.
