Emotional demonstrations of support with symbolic sit-ins in many schools – The whole society mourns, while the government attempts micro-party management
The tragedy in Tempi, with the collision of the two trains, and the dramatic moments that follow it have shocked the whole of Greece and have generated a huge wave of support.
Queues of people who want to donate blood for the wounded are forming outside hospitals all over the country. Only on Wednesday, the bottles of blood collected during the blood donation co-organized by the Blood Donation Departments of the Larissa General and University Hospital in collaboration with the Red Cross exceeded 300. The heavy rain that was falling was not able to prevent dozens of citizens, who yesterday they patiently waited their turn to donate blood.
In all of Greece
Queues also formed in the hospitals of Athens, Serres, Evros, Crete, Corfu, Volos, Ioannina, Pylos, Tripoli and many other cities. Citizens of all ages, mostly young people, responded to the call for blood donation.
It is characteristic that yesterday followingnoon the National Blood Donation Center issued a statement, with the aim of sending its own “thank you” to all those who responded to its call for voluntary blood donation. The unprecedented mobilization resulted in more than doubling the daily blood collection, which covered the needs of the injured in the accident within a few hours, while replenishing the blood reserves. “EKEA informs that the needs of the victims of the tragedy have been fully met and there is no reason to panic under the reasonable emotional load caused by such a tragic event.
Once once more, and on the occasion of a tragic event, it has been confirmed that it is very important to have sufficient blood reserves to be able to respond to emergency situations,” EKEA said, among other things, in its announcement. At the same time, the students and teachers of the 3rd General High School of Heraklion are shocking with the message they want to pass on the occasion of the tragedy in Tempi.
A moment of silence
Yesterday morning, students and teachers observed a minute’s silence in memory of the victims and then hung a banner in the front yard that read “Pick me up when you get there, okay?” and “Let’s go wherever it goes”. The teachers then wrote a text entitled “The train leaves at 8, journey to Haro”. In their own way, the students of the Gymnasium and Lyceum of Pylos, the 1st Gymnasium of Agios Anargyros and the 2nd Gymnasium of Messolonghi also wanted to express their feelings, choosing to proceed with symbolic protests for the tragedy in Tempi. The students expressed their anger at the accident by forming with their bags, in the courtyard of the schools, the following phrases: “Send when you arrive”, “Rage”, “No more crimes”.
The high schools and high schools of Pyrgos and several of Olympia are occupied, in order for the students to protest regarding the young people who lost their lives when the two trains collided. 11 schools in the prefecture of Heraklion are also under occupation, following their students wanted to express their support to the families of the people whose lives were cut so unjustly.
