“There is always such a possibility”: the harsh impeachment of Mr. Gražulis may fade

15min reminds that the only opposition “peasants” decided not to participate in the vote on the cancellation of Mr. Gražulis’ mandate.

Other opposition forces should vote freely, but the possibility that the first impeachment will fail is still there.

“There is always such a possibility, and our previous practice of similar cases shows this – both the case of Aleksandrs Sakharuks and the case of Audrias Butkevičius illustrate this. It seemed that the situation was very clear, but there were not enough votes”, – 15min J. Razma said during the impeachment process.

However, according to him, “not necessarily everyone wants to waste time” listening to P. Gražulis’ usual accusations once morest conservatives.

It is impossible to model how the secret ballot will go.

“Impossible to model. I tried to go to each one and ask how he would vote, but you can never be sure if a member of the Seimas will answer honestly. We didn’t really try to persuade anyone, it’s a secret vote and everyone votes according to their conscience,” said the conservative.

In order for Mr. Gražulis’ mandate to be revoked, at least 85 out of 141 parliamentarians must vote during a secret ballot.

If the Seimas revokes Mr. Gražulis’ mandate due to a broken oath, he would be prevented from running for the Seimas or the president for ten years.

Such a sanction would be adopted due to the fact that the Constitutional Court recognized that Mr. Gražulis deliberately voted for another member of the Seimas and thus grossly violated the Constitution and broke his oath.

S. Skvernelis: “I am skeptical”

The leader of the opposition “democrats”, former prime minister Saulius Skvernelis, watches the speeches from his office, not from the hall.

He 15min said that he would most likely come to the vote, but was skeptical of the strict impeachment.

“I am skeptical regarding today’s voting, probably different from tomorrow’s voting,” S. Skvernelis said.

According to him, members of the faction will vote freely on the cancellation of P. Gražulis’ mandate.

On Tuesday – another impeachment

If the first impeachment fails, on Tuesday morning the parliamentarians will once once more discuss the cancellation of P. Gražulis’ mandate.

The second impeachment is based on a final court verdict for abuse.

In case of this impeachment, the strict sanction of not running in the elections would not apply.
