Four people were arrested by the Carabinieri of the Special Operational Group of Rome for the murder of Angelo Vassallo, the “fisherman mayor” of Pollica (Salerno) killed on 5 September 2010. He is Fabio Cagnazzo, Colonel of the Carabinieri, Giuseppe Cipriano, entrepreneur, Romolo Ridosso, justice collaborator, Lazzaro Cioffi, former carabiniere. A precautionary custody order in prison was applied against them. Competitiveness in Vassallo’s murder disputed. This was reported in a note signed by the Salerno prosecutor Giuseppe Borrelli.
All those arrested are being investigated on charges of complicity in murder with Camorra aggravating circumstances, as had already emerged from the searches on 28 July. According to the reconstruction of the investigators, the motive for the assassination would be linked to the discovery, by the mayor, of drug trafficking attributable to Camorra circles and in which members of the force were also involved. Vassallo would have been killed after having confided what he knew about the affair to the former chief prosecutor of Vallo della Lucania, Alfredo Greco, but before being able to formalize his complaint to a carabiniere absolutely trusted by Greco himself.
