For the first time in 15 years, Roger Federer dares to ski. His video of it, posted on social media, sparked numerous reactions.
Roger Federer has been a passionate skier since a young age. But during his career, the 20-time Grand Slam winner is not allowed to live out his passion in the snow. Excursions to the ski slopes are too dangerous. Federer will have to experience this first hand.
“Between 16 and 22 I wasn’t really professional. I was lucky, I might have gotten a serious injury there,” the 21-time Grand Slam winner once admitted in an interview and said: “Once following returning from the Australian Open I went skiing with Marc Rosset. I skied like a madman, took a jump, flew 10 meters, fell and found myself 100 meters down in the snow.” Luckily, the incident went smoothly.
Federer has to do without skiing during his successful years on the tennis tour. A restriction that no longer applies since the declared resignation. “It’s been 15 years. It feels so good to be back on the slopes,” Federer wrote in a video posted on social media. The answers are not long in coming.
Federer congratulates Feuz on “amazing career”
«Yes Rog! It’s like riding a bike, »says the former downhill queen Lindsey Vonn with the Swiss. Speed specialist Steven Nyman even wants to invite Federer to a big race and the Italian slalom skier Giuliano Razzoli has offered to be a ski instructor. Beat Feuz, who has just resigned, hints with a wink: “There is a place available in the downhill team.”
“Ui, unfortunately!”, Federer replies with a laugh and takes the opportunity to say a few words to the “ball lightning”: “Insane career Beat, congratulations.”
However, Federer’s ski video also brings athletes from other sports onto the scene. Nevin Galmarini calls for a snowboard trip soon and Fabian Cancellara suggests a summer bike tour. But watch out: the risk of injury hasn’t diminished since you left professional sport.
