Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) has just published new statistics produced by its firm, where we discover that consumer habits clearly change between an Apple Store and another type of store. The official stores of the Apple firm would thus sell many more Macs in the United States, granting themselves no less than 47 % of market share, just ahead of Best Buy (24%) and Amazon (only 14%). The source doesn’t mention numbers corresponding to French users, however.
On the iPhone side, however… it’s a cold shower for Cupertino. In fact, Tim Cook’s company would only gain 21 % market share, compared to no less than 71% for operators! That’s almost three quarters of the total, therefore. For comparison, the other addresses listed by CIRP only share 7% of the pie. Of course, let’s remember that as this is only one study, the results can completely vary in reality, and especially depending on the region. But it is clear that the financing options are more interesting for small budgets, moreover in France this possibility has recently disappeared from the Apple Stores, which leaves room for access providers like Orange, SFR or even Bouygues Telecom.
Are Apple Store customers richer?
With this, the survey carried out by CIRP shows that Apple Store customers are more likely to buy “Pro” iPhones than others. Today, for high-end models, there are actually two main categories. For the models currently available, we find on the one hand the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, with better photo sensors and a faster processor, and on the other hand the iPhone 15, the iPhone 14 or the iPhone 15 Plus, more affordable but less fast.
Strangely, the quantity of iPhone SEs purchased in Apple Stores or from operators remains relatively similar, with 5 % of the total. As a reminder, these mobiles are now the cheapest offered by the American manufacturer, with an entry price placed below the symbolic bar of six hundred euros (in mainland France). It is also rumored that a fourth edition is on the way and might see the light of day in 2025 – but this remains to be confirmed, and it is clearly not the manufacturer who will do it.
Apple Store or operator: advantages and disadvantages
Clearly, abroad, buying in an Apple Store can be very advantageous, especially for those who benefit from installment payments or cashback with the Apple Card. The latter, however, is only available from Uncle Sam, for the moment. In addition, its recent setbacks suggest that it will not be possible to pay for your purchases in a timely manner in the European Union.
As for operators, in France, they actually offer rather interesting offers when combined with mobile plans. However, here it is: most often, the seller allows himself a very large margin, right under the nose of the consumer who doesn’t really add up their deadlines to see that the total amount is ultimately much higher than with a single order in the Apple Store…
