There are now more hires than departures at Vitalité | Health crisis in the Atlantic

The Francophone health network in New Brunswick released its quarterly report to the community on Wednesday. We learn that since June 2022, hirings have been more important than departures in a context of labor shortage.

At Vitalité, in February 2023, there were therefore 278 departures, but 420 hires. In terms of registered nurses, nursing assistants and care attendants, there were 81 departures and 171 hires.

This is really great news. It is certain that on the ground and I will not tell lies, it does not yet feel impressive because we have just reversed the curve. So definitely, there are more hires than departures, but we need so many more people and so many vacant positions that we need to continue in this direction.said the President and CEO.

Representatives of the network also took part in job fairs in several French-speaking countries. Among other places, they visited Abidjan, in the Ivory Coast and Casablanca, in Morocco. These recruitment missions made it possible to collect more than 400 applications. Other trips are planned for 2023 in France and Belgium in particular.

Now we can say that we got our heads out of the water in terms of recruitment and vacancies. It’s not perfect. We must continue to work in this direction. But it makes a difference when people are part of the solutionsadded Dr. Desrosiers in an interview on the show The morning.

The network also released its second performance report card in which Vitalité compares its performance to the rest of the country.

« There are really places where we have a long way to go and others where we stand out on the Canadian scene. »

A quote from Dr. France Desrosiers, CEO of Vitalité

For example, Vitalité is not meeting its targets for emergency department visits for care that is less urgent or for patients who could have been seen elsewhere in the health care system. More than 57% of Vitalité emergency room visits were level 4 and 5, requiring less urgent care, in the last quarter. The target to be reached is 31%.

The purpose of the quarterly report is definitely not to get ideas and think that we are perfect. On the contrary, there is a long way to go.admitted Dr. Desrosiers.

It is throughout the world that health systems are adjusting to the fact that the population is aging, needs are increasing, but the workforce is decreasing, so we cannot continue to provide care at the same rate. way we have already done. We need to redefine with our patients and our communitiesrecalled the CEO.

Moreover, Vitalité says it has several improvement projects in terms of recruitment, but also in terms of retention. The Government of New Brunswick has also announced that the registration process for nurses working in Canada is now being accelerated.
