“There are no monsters” –

“You did something, but you are not a mafioso, you are not someone who kills people, you had a moment of weakness. You are not a terrorist. You have to be strong. You are not the only one. There were many others. But you have to graduate”. These are some of the sentences that Nicola Turetta addressed to his son Filippo, in prison for the femicide of Giulia Cecchettin, during the conversation that took place together with his mother on December 3 in the prison of Verona. The conversation was intercepted by the investigators’ bugs and filed in the proceedings against Turetta. The weekly Giallo published it instead.

Turetta and the new horror chat with Giulia:

“I don’t think I have much to add to the words I said in November. There are no monsters, but there is a systematic normalization of violence, and because it is systematic it depends on our society, it depends on everyone”. Elena Cecchettin wrote this on Instagram in response to Nicola Turetta’s words. “I am not surprised by certain news, absolutely not. And so I reiterate the concept. Liberation from patriarchal violence starts by rejecting violence against women and minorities, rejecting any justification, because there is never a justification for oppression – she added – We must stop remaining silent in the face of the normalization of femicide, let’s continue to make noise, to break this silence of silence. For Giulia, and for all the other two hundred femicides, because no victim should remain just a statistic”.
