It was revealed in August 2015 that Orlando Bloom was returning for the fifth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. However, a trailer suggests that this time he may not embody a hero, but on the contrary a villain.
At the end of the original Pirates Of The Caribbean trilogy, Orlando Bloom famously takes the helm as Will Turner Flying Dutchman by squid captain Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) – and that’s when all the monster pirates covered in shells and other sea vegetables turn back into normal-looking people.
That makes sense too, because a captain of the Flying Dutchman is not inherently evil, rather he actually has the noble task of guiding the souls of the deceased safely into the realm of the dead. It’s only when Davy Jones decides to stop bringing the souls to their destination and instead enslave them on his ship with him, does he gradually evolve from human-looking captain to shell-strewn ghost buccaneer.
And if you watch closely the trailer for Pirates Of The Carribean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales released during the Super Bowl, there’s a lot to suggest that former naval hero Will Turner has died in the years since the end of Pirates Of The Caribbean – At the end of the world” slowly but surely met a similar fate:
Because apparently he doesn’t look as radiant as on this poster for a long time…
… instead, in the trailer, you can see that Will Turner is beginning to fuse with his ship and grow a seashell garden on his face:
The fact that this may not be an automatic process, but might actually have something to do with turning to evil, might also be deduced from the post-credits sequence from “Pirates Of The Caribbean – At The End Of The World”. It takes place ten years following the actual action of the film – and when Will Turner following a decade as captain of the Flying Dutchman back on land, he still looks 100 percent human:
Apparently, just being on the ship for a longer period of time isn’t enough. Apparently you have to confess to evil – and that in turn would mean that row returnee Orlando Bloom is not a hero this time, but on the contrary one of the Bad Guys embodied.
As far as fan theories go, this is one of the more plausible ones in our opinion. Or what do you mean? We’ll find out whether it’s really true by May 25, 2017 at the latest, when “Pirates Of The Carribean 5: Salazar’s Revenge” with Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow starts in German cinemas.
