There are currently no witnesses in the death of Muriel Furrer

The cantonal police and the public prosecutor’s office gave an update on the status of the investigations via a communiqué. Authorities note that the investigation is still ongoing. Nevertheless, they confirm: “According to initial findings, the driver fell near Küsnacht in a slight left-hand bend while descending from the hamlet of Schmalzgrueb. There are currently no indications of third-party influence. According to current investigations, the fall was not observed. There are currently no television images or other recordings of this. There are no known witnesses.”

It is now clear who found the young athlete. “The investigations so far show that the fallen athlete was discovered unconscious off the track in the forest by a member of track security,” is the wording in the media release. “The rescue workers who were called immediately arrived at the scene of the accident shortly afterwards and provided first aid. The exact time of the accident has not yet been completely clarified.”

The authorities say that the specialists from the Zurich Cantonal Police and the Zurich Forensic Institute carried out the necessary forensic investigation immediately after the rescue. «The racing bike was seized by law enforcement authorities for technical inspection. The Institute of Forensic Medicine at the University of Zurich was commissioned to carry out the necessary forensic medical examinations.

18-year-old Muriel Furrer suffered a severe traumatic brain injury when she fell in rainy weather on Thursday in the junior women’s road race. After receiving first aid, she was flown by rescue helicopter to Zurich University Hospital, where she died of her serious injuries the following day.
