There are 9 dead and more than 2000 injured

Following the shocking attack on Hezbollah members in several locations in Lebanon and Syria, by means of the explosion of communication devices, at least nine people have been killed and nearly 3,000 have been injured, some 200 of them seriously.

The Islamic group’s communication devices were state-of-the-art, such as the beeper, a wireless device used to receive short text messages or alert signals.

According to Hezbollah, a member of the group, the son of Lebanese parliamentarian Ali Ammar, was killed in one of the explosions, and a nine-year-old girl, Fatima Jaafar Abdullah, was killed when one of the devices exploded in her parents’ home in the village of Saraain.

Among the injured is the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani. Al Jazeera reported that the injuries were “superficial.”

A senior military intelligence official and an Islamic terrorist group official with knowledge of the situation also said the pagers were detonated. The second said it was believed to have been an Israeli hack.

Saudi media outlet Alhadath said senior Hezbollah leaders and their advisers were wounded in the blasts. Several Lebanese members of the terrorist group were also taken to hospitals in and around the Syrian capital Damascus.

The group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, had previously asked members not to carry cellphones and warned that Israel could use them to track their movements or attack them.

The hypothesis of a cyber attack by Israel

British media outlet Sky News said this hypothesis is the strongest, although it is very difficult to prove.

He also explained how it could have happened. It is believed that when they entered the system they sent a large number of messages to overheat the circuit, which overloaded the batteries which eventually exploded.

According to an anonymous Hezbollah official quoted by The Wall Street Journal, some members of the terrorist group felt their locators getting hot and got rid of them before the explosions.

The Israeli military has not yet commented on the matter. The Associated Press even contacted the military but declined to comment.
