Therapist told how long the post-covid syndrome lasts

After a coronavirus infection, the post-mortem syndrome can last from seven days to 12 weeks and go into a chronic stage. This was announced in an interview with Evening Moscow by the general practitioner Inna Koloskova.

According to her, the duration of the syndrome largely depends on how much the person’s immune system has suffered due to the virus:

“Persistent and long-term effects of an acute illness that persist for more than four or five weeks following the onset of COVID-19 are not explained by the presence of comorbid problems. It’s just that once morest the background of the post-COVID syndrome, chronic diseases can worsen.

Koloskova noted that regardless of how easily COVID-19 proceeded, whether the patient had a chronic problem, the majority of those infected develop chronic fatigue during the onset of post-Covid.

Scientifically, this phenomenon is called asthenia. The cause of the occurrence is considered to be low-intensity inflammation of the nerve tissues, which as a result can negatively affect the functioning of the brain.

The expert noted that the main distinguishing feature of post-Covid in all previous variants of coronavirus was systemic inflammation in the vessels, which led to thrombosis, fatigue, headaches and joint pain.
