INDONESIAN men’s 100-meter sprinter Lalu Muhammad Zohri said he felt increasingly challenged to be able to record a 100-meter sprint time under 10 seconds, which has not yet been achieved.
“(The time record under 10 seconds has not been realized) That is increasingly a challenge for me, because my target is to run under 10 seconds from 2019,” said Zohri during a training session towards the 2024 Paris Olympics at the Madya Stadium, Gelora Bung Karno Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (10/7).
Zohri has undergone training camps in the United States (US) and participated in a number of championships in Japan and Thailand to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In a test session following undergoing intensive training in Phoenix, USA, the sprinter from West Nusa Tenggara recorded a time of 10.39 seconds.
Next, at the 11th Kinami Michitaka Memorial Athletics Meet in Osaka, Japan, with a time of 10.37 seconds.
In the latest event that Zohri attended, namely the ASEAN University Games (AUG) 2024 in Surabaya, East Java, Zohri won gold with a time record of 10.19 seconds.

The 23-year-old’s best time was 10.03 seconds at the Osaka Grand Prix in Japan to secure qualification for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
He said that since the Tokyo Olympics, he has become more confident in being able to record a running time under 10 seconds. However, that target has not been achieved in various matches due to injuries and other obstacles experienced.
“That’s why I’m still pursuing how to make it happen,” Zohri emphasized.
He explained that one of the future opportunities he has to achieve his running time target is at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
