Indonesian sprinter Lalu Muhamamd Zohri is still faithfully carrying the target of setting a 100-meter sprint record with a time of under 10 seconds, when participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Zohri is eligible to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics in the men’s 100m, thanks to a University Place allocation. It will be Zohri’s second Olympic appearance, having previously competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and was stopped in heat four with a time of 10.26 seconds.

“My target has never changed from before. Since 2019, I have targeted it. Because of many injuries, I have not achieved that target until now. Tomorrow’s target is to run under 10 (seconds),” said Zohri when met in Jakarta, Thursday (27/6).

It is natural for athletes who compete in a sporting event as big as the Olympics to feel a very heavy burden, but the runner from West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) admitted that he did not feel much pressure.

Moreover, Zohri is not someone who actively plays social media, so he finds it easier to eliminate non-technical disturbances that might hit him.

“In my opinion, there is no real burden going abroad, let alone competing. Yes, I am here also preparing, having mental training and all sorts of things that I have prepared from here. So yes, there, I just focus on competing,” said Zohri.

Regarding his less than optimal achievement at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Zohri said it was due to several serious injuries that had befallen him. However, now, he is ready to rise to give his best performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“For me personally, to overcome it, what is it called, I have written down my goals and dreams. So, like when I get injured, how do I get back up again. Can pursue that dream,” said Zohri, who also represented Indonesia at the 2022 Asian Games.

Indonesia has so far qualified 27 athletes to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics. (Ant/Z-1)
