We can never repeat it enough, you should never communicate your bank details, even less via messages or e-mails! Unfortunately, a Eupenoise and a Raerenoise fell into the trap. The victims’ bank account was debited with a sum of money.
Last Friday, April 8, a resident of Raeren surrendered to the police. She said she was contacted via WhatsApp by someone she did not know and then received a call from that person. “Following this call, she activated her bank card and her card reader and transmitted the codes received”, details the Vesdre-Gueule police zone. Later, she found that money had been withdrawn from her account.
The next day, Saturday April 9, another lady showed up at the Eupen police station. She had also been the victim of an internet scam. “She was contacted via Facebook-Messenger. She was told that she had won a Thermomix and that she had to pay 5 euros in postage to receive the prize. After receiving further instructions, she used her bank card and card reader and transmitted the codes received, ”adds the police zone. She then found that money had been withdrawn from her account.
