Cubans from the city of Cárdenas denounce an increase in theft of water meters, the objective of the thieves, according to those affected, is to sell the stopcocks, another input that does not appear on the island.
Through the group’Cardenenses on Facebook’ Internet user Ariel Garriga Pérez published a video where the water can be seen gushing out in the corridor without control.
Garriga Pérez explains that he was arriving at his house when the trail of water on the road caught his attention.
When checking, she realized that her neighbor’s water meter had been stolen, and she assures that the one in her own house was not stolen because in her home they had the door open and they were sitting near the doorway.
“Now at 3:30 am the neighbor’s water meter was stolen, until when,” said the Cuban lamenting that thieves no longer have limits in Cuba.
The Internet user explained that this is not the first robbery in his neighborhood “other neighbors told me that this is like the room (counter) that they have on this block, apparently what they do is sell the stop keys, that the watches are they throw a few meters away, it’s a pin… what we are experiencing”, he stated in his complaint.
Other Cubans confirmed in their publication that apparently what they take are the stopcocks to sell.
The theft of water meters is a serious problem in the city of Cárdenas. In the same complaint, other Cubans lamented that there are many more victims in that city.
“Here in the biplanta by Tenería they have not left one. In one night they took 5,” said one person.
“In the Biplanta there is not one left, they were all stolen, months ago, so it was not to make gasoline,” someone else confirmed.
But the thieves are taking anything that can be sold. As a Cuban woman confirmed, “ornamental plants were stolen from me. Not even that is saved. We are lost, ”she lamented.
Amid the complaints, some Cubans wonder what the police are doing.
The lack of official information on the increase in crime in the country also leads people to go to social networks to tell their serious experiences and alert the rest of the population.
Despite the permanent alerts, a Spanish businessman visiting Havana for the 41st edition of the FITCuba International Tourism Fair, highlighted this week the “security” on the island for tourists, although the authorities of his own country do not agree. agreement.
Jon Arriaga, president of the Dit Gestión Travel Agency Management Group, which promotes the destination Cuba in Europe, declared to the official newspaper Granma that the island is a “very safe” destination for tourism activities, citizen complaints show the opposite.
